Residential Drip Systems
Drip irrigation produces healthier plants, better yields, and it is a great time saver. The use of drip irrigation has decreased the incidence of plant disease that can occur with the use of overhead sprinkler irrigation. In addition, using a drip irrigation system cuts down on water-borne pests and fungal diseases that spread by water movement, as well as the germination of weeds in the areas between your plants.
Drip irrigation is the most efficient method of irrigating. While sprinkler systems are around 75-85% efficient, drip systems typically are 90% or higher. What that means is much less wasted water! For this reason drip is the preferred method of irrigation in the hotter regions of the United States.
The advantage of a drip system is that you water the plants you want to water, keeping weed growth out of your plantings. Drip irrigation works by applying water slowly, directly to the soil, resulting from two primary factors. The first is that the water soaks into the soil before it can evaporate or run off. The second is that the water is only applied where it is needed, (at the plant’s roots) rather than sprayed everywhere.
